David's Legislative Goals in his First Term
David's chief priority is protecting the individual liberty of every person. While this is a very broad priority, he will propose the following legislative items during his first term.
1. He will propose a Constitutional Amendment ending sovereign immunity, and make those who violate our rights through government criminally and civilly liable for their abuses. He will propose companion legislation to repeal all laws that infringe on any of our Constitutional rights. Today, the greatest threat to our rights is the erosion of the 4th Amendment. Warrantless domestic spying is unjust and must be halted immediately. Limits must be placed on the use of data collected and correlated on American citizens. People cannot truly be free if they live with government looking over their shoulder.
2. He will propose a Constitutional Amendment to require a balanced budget, which will also contain a requirement to pay down our current debt in a prudent manner. He will also propose legislation to change the budgeting process, to implement prioritized spending and spending limits to end the practice of spending money we do not have. It is unjust and immoral to commit our children and grandchildren to pay for the debt we incur today when they do not have a voice in how that the money is being spent.
3. He will propose a Constitutional Amendment to end cronyism. Despite the 14th Amendment saying we're all equal, we still seem to exist in a "separate but equal" system, where benefits are doled out based on rigged criteria. He will fight to end corporate bailouts. He will fight to repeal onerous regulations created to only keep competitors from challenging incumbents in industry. He will fight to end tax loopholes and special exemptions.
4. He will propose a Constitutional Amendment for congressional term limits. Too many politicians abuse the system to escape accountability. Being elected to political office was supposed to be a public duty, not a career.
